In this part of the world it is not an easy task to find olive trees. Despite this, we can find an olive farm in a particular enclave on the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates: Jebel Yibir.
On this summit (with a maximum altitude of 1,527m) an intensive olive farm can be found at 1,400m above sea level. In spite of its extreme weather, with an annual thermal jump that goes from -5 to +50 degrees Celsius, it has been possible to cultivate and reach a reasonable level of production.
Here we find intensive farming land with olive trees with a single trunk of the picual variety, with a planting pattern that is 4 by 6 meters, oriented from north to south, assisted by irrigation and with a total extension of approximately 8 hectares. There is also an oil mill that has 6 thousand kg of daily milling capacity. The last harvest produced 60 thousand kg of fruit. The oil yield varies around 18 degrees. The 11 thousand kg of oil produced was destined exclusively to the internal market.
The farming land is situated next to a military settlement, so you must have authorization to get there. Olive oil is in high demand in the country, especially in Dubai, where it is considered a very healthy product and is used for food, such as aesthetics and health care.
