On the islands of the Gulf of Canada, on the west coast, there are two olive farms. One is dedicated to table olives and the other, the larger one, is geared towards the production of olive oil.

Andrew Butt was the first farmer to put all his cards down for the olive tree. Since 2001, and with several tests of some different varieties, he cultivated Frantoio and Leccino, dedicating their production to table olives, which he prepares himself.

Michael Pierce’s family went on a trip to the south of Spain at the end of the 90s. During their stay, they fell in love with the fields and forests of olive groves. It was then they began their commitment to the agriculture of the olive grove. His first plantation consisted of 1,000 olive trees in about 30 ha. Currently, he has more than 2,500 plants and an area of 75 ha.

The mill with which they use is semi-industrial, has small dimensions and is capable of grinding between 250 and 450 kg / h of olives. It is situated above the 46th parallel, exactly at 48º47 «, being the northernmost in the world and surpassing the» 46º barrier «.

They have sold everything they produced as it is highly valued by the local consumer and by the best chefs and restaurants in Canada. This Extra Virgin Olive Oil is sold in 200ml bottles, at a price of $ 75. This is the first 100% Canadian olive oil.
